The Challenge
Charlie’s Spot runs two guest houses in Johannesburg, Norwood and The Gardens, close to Grant Avenue, Sandton and Rosebank. The old website used a dated boxed layout with heavy blue backgrounds, and its call-to-action text sat directly over photos where it was hard to read. The galleries showed plenty of images but very little information, so visitors had to work to understand what each property offered and how to book.
The Solution
We redesigned and rebuilt the website from scratch in WordPress, with a clean, spacious layout that feels closer to a boutique hotel than a basic listing.
- Full-width hero featuring the pool area and a clear message: two properties, one welcoming brand.
- Dedicated sections for each property with descriptions, highlights and a “View Accommodation” button.
- Tabbed galleries (Bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom, Outdoors, Pool & Spa) so guests can explore room by room.
- Solar power as a trust message, reassuring guests that load shedding won’t affect their stay.
- Embedded location map showing nearby attractions and business districts.
- Structured footer with WhatsApp, email, address and a newsletter signup offering an exclusive booking discount.
- Airbnb property integration to support the booking journey.
- Easy-to-manage backend so the owner can update rooms, photos and offers without technical help.
Performance, SEO & Accessibility
Every page was built mobile-first with touch-friendly navigation. We optimised images and assets for faster loading, set up a clean heading hierarchy and metadata for search engines, and improved colour contrast and readability throughout.
The Result
The new website presents both properties the way guests experience them: warm, comfortable and professional. Visitors can compare locations, browse rooms and get in touch in a few clicks, and the business now has a scalable WordPress platform that encourages direct enquiries instead of acting as a simple photo brochure.
