The Challenge
WorkplaceLikeHome Two is a community hub where remote workers share job leads, side hustle ideas and work-from-home advice. The site was running on a broken Astra child theme, which made the design inconsistent and every change risky. The client also runs an established sister blog, Two Chicks With A Side Hustle, and wanted the two sites to work together.
The Solution
Standalone Custom Theme
- Rebuilt as a fully standalone theme with no parent theme dependency, covering every template from pages and posts to archives, search and 404.
- Custom homepage built as a self-contained page with forum categories, a three-step “How It Works” journey and clear sign-up calls to action.
Community Features
- bbPress forums for job leads, side gigs, WFH setup, productivity and scam alerts.
- BuddyPress member community with profiles and member activity.
- Registration and membership flow for new members to join and log in.
New Brand System
- Pink colour palette with Inter and Fraunces typography, applied consistently across buttons, headers, hover states, forms, logos and all forum and community elements.
- Sister site integration through navigation and footer deep links to Two Chicks With A Side Hustle.
Security Hardening
We built a security layer into the theme: XML-RPC disabled, login rate limiting, security headers, user enumeration blocking, disabled file editing, blocked dangerous upload types, a comment honeypot, session timeouts and an admin security dashboard widget.
The Result
The community now runs on a stable, maintainable codebase with a consistent, modern design across the homepage, forums and member areas. The client can grow the community and cross-promote their sister site without fighting theme conflicts.
